I grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 2005 I obtained a medical degree from the University of Zimbabwe. I then did my internship in Bulawayo.
Somewhere along the line, I decided that I would rather work towards bringing about change and social justice than treat patients. I try to be as apolitical as possible because I think we all give politicians and the political process too much credit. There are some things only they can do, but that still leaves an awful lot of space for the rest of us. Besides, although they do not always behave that way, politicians ultimately work for us. It is ‘we the people’ who should determine which direction society takes.
In 2006 I emigrated to, and now live in, Ireland. I have the privilege of writing a column for the Irish Times. I have also been a guest on RTE Radio 1’s Today with Pat Kenny and have featured on Newstalk’s The Right Hook.
